2001 XJ 242 Swap
Hi Guys, I just recently picked up an 01 XJ and love it. I'm planning on doing a 242 T case swap.
I can find the t case, bezel, jumper, but I'm having trouble finding the shift gate.
I've found a shift gate from a 98ZJ. Does anyone know if I can use this or modify it easily for the swap? Thanks for any advice!

Ok well it seems a ZJ 242 shifter is a bad idea.
I've been hunting around, man they are hard to find. Tomorrow I'm picking up the new 242 TC from a guy who rebuilds them.
As for the shifter, can anyone tell if this is a 242 shifter?-

I'm pretty sure the gate is different, at least that's what i've been reading. In a few weeks when I install my friend with a 2000XJ will be helping me, we can compare his 242 to my 231 gate.
Attached is a pic from another forum and user who owns both 231 and 242 xj's. You can see he has a different shift gate. 231 on the left 242 on the right.
The other issue I'm running into is wiring for the swap. People have been ordering the 560412AA jumper but the dealer says they stopped making them. I think I can make the wiring work if I can track down a 242 wiring connecter.

Wiring issue solved. After calling 4 dealer parts dept's to no avail I found the jumper off a diagram on a website. Twice what others have paid ($29 vs $15) but hey this will give a 2000 and 2001 XJ plug and play FT 4wd lights when swapping in a 242.

Still looking for the TC shift gate. I have a lead on one...
