2001 Jeep Cherokee front and rear diff problems.
i was experiencing a clicking noise at low speeds and a loose front driveshaft so i decided to bring my jeep to the mechanic to get his diagnosis. He said i need front and rear end pinions and bearings and the flange? not sure what he was referring to as im not very knowledgable on 4wd vehicles.
He also said i would need an axel u-joint. He said it would cost around $2000 for them to do it. I feel he is trying to rip me off. Would this be a good price for the front and rear diffs to be "rebuilt"?I have worked on engines before but never differentials so im not sure if i could tackle this job.

Most people just swap in junk yard axles in this case, it seems. Much cheaper, usually.
Is the driveshaft able to move up & down? (where the driveshaft enters the differential/axle, essentially)

X2 on yunk yard axles. Pick your part in my town sells them for 100 bucks a piece on a sale day... unless you want to regear to something lower. Defiently get a couple of quotes before you decide to have it regeared/rebuilt. Prices can varry a lot from shop to shop but I definetly wouldnt pay 2k for a rebuild
