2001 Cherokee transmission
Last year I rebuilt the motor on my 2001 Cherokee sport completely inside and out. All seems to be well, I don't have access to a DPR3 but timing seems fins. My youngest is in his second year in an automotive program (then wants to go on to heavy diesel). He needed a transmission to rebuild for class and I told him he could use my Cherokee (260K miles). The tranny checked out to be in excellent condition so we decided not to rebuild. What I find interesting is that there were 2 possibilities of automatic transmissions: one made by Chrysler and one made by Toyota - mine is the Toyota version. Does anyone know if there was any difference in these transmissions?

Yours is the AW4, also designated as 30-43LE on the tag, and is a 4-speed transmission built by Aisin-Warner. It is the only automatic transmission that was ever mated to the 4.0L L6 in U.S. Cherokees. The Toyota "A" series transmissions of the same family were also built by Aisin-Warner.
The other automatic transmission you mention was the 30RH that was only available with the 2.5L 4 cylinder. That is a Chrysler 3-speed transmission.
Here is some good info to review on Jeep transmissions: https://www.quadratec.com/jeep_knowl...article-94.htm
