Hi, I have a 2001 Cherokee. The temp gauge goes from normal to hot when stationary and goes back to normal when driving.
Any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appriciated

Replace your fan clutch. 8 bolts. $40. Available at most auto parts stores.

It's a little easier if you remove the upper radiator support to allow the radiator to tilt forward for better access, but it's not necessary. If you do remove the support, ignore the torx screws in the top of it and remove the nuts from the angled bracket that holds it to the header panel. The rad support and angled bracket will come out in one piece a lot easier than if you mess with the torx screws.

Oh, also, be careful with your fan shroud. This is when a lot of people break them.

Now you've gone and cursed yourself.

I wouldn't characterize it as easy, but I also wouldn't call it difficult. Tricky is probably a better word for it. You'll have to figure out how to use a wrench locked against two of the bolts to keep the pulley from turning while you loosen a third bolt. You can actually buy a special tool for that, but I've never used one. And you're doing it with the super-annoying fan shroud in the way, even after you pull it loose and move it back so you can get to the bolts.

That's why I mentioned being careful with your fan shroud. You have to cultivate a sense of calm. When people get frustrated is when they break them.

i've heard the fan shroud around the clutch fan also plays a decent role in directing air when stationary. OP, is yours intact?

I have the same issue. I replaced the fan clutch with the HD version and no luck.
