Smile 2000 xj needs heater core evaporator and dash fan.

So I bought my 200 jeep Cherokee new from the factory and have loved alot of things about it except........the AC. three years in the ac compressor went bad. Replaced that after a few years of sweating it out. the next summer the head cracked (a common problem for this year model) and put water in the oil of the engine. I did an "in the compartment engine rebuild" witch proved to be the dumbest idea I have had to date. It took longer than if I had pulled it out and because I didn't pull it I didn't replace the cam and cam bearings. So it has a problem at idle after the engine is warm of loosing oil pressure. Its been that way for awhile but still drives fine.

So in the middle of this record heat wave the AC fan quits working. Also a common problem with this year model and as far as I can tell a jeep issue! I have been smelling antifreeze in the car for the last year and I know that means the heater core is bad.

So my idea is this. I want to pull the engine strip it down and send it off to be cleaned and new cam bearings placed. While its out I want to start pulling the dash and removing the heater core and fan and whatever else needs replacing. My delima is that I really would like more information on what must be removed and the order of removal in order to get it out. This is the first car I have had with air bags and not excited about accidentally setting them off.

So here it is I want detailed info on how to get the dash out and....wait for it.....Equipment that will last as replacements to the POS that served as a AC for this otherwise beefy Goat! I will consider fabrication to accommodate (dare I say it) foreign Japanese Technology like maybe something out of a Toyota. So tell me what you think. I plan on doing this and taking pictures then reporting back to all.
