Default 2000 XJ Inconsistent Running/Engine Failure "In need of a Life Line"

I have a 2000 XJ with 130,000 miles, maticulously maintained. I've recently encountered strange and inconsistent behavior.

Recently, I was at freeway speed when all the sudden the RPM gauge started going crazy and simultaneously I lost engine power, I pumped on the gas and got no response, I was in coast mode, then all the sudden full engine power was restored--no engine lights? I drove approximately 60 more miles with no other occurances?

Then yesterday, I was driving in town at about 50mph and the engine died smoothly as if the key had been turned off. This time it never regained full power, I pumped the gas and got no response...the radio and all other electrical was still on? I came to a stop and turned the ignition over several times and then it came back to life (running smooth). I drove a few more miles and then it happend again, same problem with no engine lights???

Since it was unpredictable and unreliable I had it towed to the local shop, as of yesterday they're still scratiching their heads and can't duplicate the problem, it's running like a champion?

Could there be a problem with the module/fuel filter/injectors, I'm no pro mechanic by any means but it seems like theirs something going on electrically?

I'm driving from California to New Mexico next week and need to get this resolved before I go cross country with it. Please Advise!!!

Check the grounds to your CPU, if those are fried or broken off it can cause the engine/rest of the jeep to do some crazy stuff.
