Don't do the math. We spend far more on these vehicles than they are worth. We accept it and move on.

So I climbed under the jeep while it was running today and it definitely sounds like the flex plate.

On a swap note. I have 97 ZJ with 5.2 I picked up for $500. Runs and drives perfect. I know it ain't an LSx but it might do when the time comes for a new motor.

To Jeep Driver:

Where the heck did you find a battery for $65.00? Must have been a while ago.

$80,000 new Wranglers.

Cherokees are cheap in comparison.

80grand for a Wrangler? Maybe if it has a bunch of dealer added suspension and bumper upgrades, along with tires and wheels. The highest price I've seen was 65k. It was a total flat brimmer rig.

Nope, new Exides, gels.

If an Exide sits on the shelf more than three months, they take it back, mark it 'blem', ship it out to local independents to sell cheap.

$180 1100 amp battery for $65.

This one was at a dealer. They had done just about everything possible to it I guess. They told me the bank would finance 80% of retail cost of the upgrades. In other words, 20% minimum real money down to well-qualified buyers.

However, an individual could buy a top-line Wrangler Unlimited and spend that much too. Or more.

Just got in from checking the bolts and it is not them. They were all tight. I went ahead and pulled them off and put loctite on them and put them back on and it still made the same noise.

So I am leaning towards it being a lifter/lifters.

Sounds just like my 2000 XJ (with 202k miles) that broken a piston skirt. Mine sounded louder than this, but it was probably further gone. I swapped it out for a 96 4.0L. Apparently with other design changes in 2000, they redesigned the pistons so the skirts got thinner. After 200k miles they seem to like breaking apart and ending up in the oil pan somewhere.

If you're lucky though it's just a stuck/collapsed lifter. Pull the valve cover and inspect the valvetrain for anything loose or out of place.

Very nice. I have al Al VC awaiting install (put the stamped one on for now) but I have to do something more to make my PCV work or install an aftermarket one.

Sounds good. Will take a look at it tomorrow.

Is it just me or does it look like the clutch fan is acting weird in the video?

I do have a 97 ZJ with a 5.2 that runs and drives that I could always swap into the XJ.
