Default 2000 XJ Changed TPS Now not starting cleanly

Hi,

Changed the TPS on my 2000 XJ last week; before it failed starting was clean and easy every time. Now it runs well but starting once warm can be a pain; need to turn it over 5 or 6 times for it to catch. Any advice would be welcome??

Cheers

Iain

Maybe try resetting the ECU and letting it relearn the new TPS?

Why did you change your TPS if it was starting clean and easy every time?

Trouble starting after the engine heats up may be vapor lock. Common on the 2000/2001 XJ's. There's a Technical Service Bulletin about this.

Try turning the ignition switch to ON several times before cranking the engine to see if it starts right up.

When you installed it, did you confirm the closed throttle voltage to insure its in spec?

Generally if you have a new problem immediately after changing a part, that part has an issue.
Did you change anything else or just the TPS? What brand is the replacement part?

Hi Ken,
The old TPS failed and as soon as you pushed the throttle the engine died. I'll give your suggestions as go.

Thanks

That could be many issues...but I hear the CPS can have this exact same problem....

But good troubleshooting will save you from spending the cash if you have the time...

How many ohms does the CPS need and how many volts I would like to test it before I buy one from mopar I've been looking and so far I think you guys are just about right with it being the CPS just can never be sure until it's done

Not in a meaningful fashion other than substitution. The Renix' you could measure the output voltage. I've seen a couple of "tests" for HO CPS', none of them really seem definitive. If they test bad, then they are. If they test good they may still be bad.
