I checked out both of theses ads,but I don't know anything about purchasing engines or serious mechanical stuff. Dad did teach me how to do an oil change, radiator flush, tune up (older model veh).I have not had to do any of this since my last used car which was 1985....LOL.

I have an 0630 Head from a 94 XJ for sale for $200.

You can use this:

http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=919384

To adapt the stock exhaust. Total job will be around $350-$400 and you will have a like new running Jeep.

That ad...he still has the engine. I will email him asking about just the head for you. I dont think you will need to modify the exhaust when using the 99 head.

1999 will be the 0630 casting - you will need to swap/adapt the exhaust regardless

I stopped by Mascott's yesterday morning. Mikefrost was kind enough to meet me there. I started her jeep, and the "knock" was way too fast, and more of a really loud tapping. Defenitely not lower end, noise was way to high for that. It was also coming from the area of #3/4 cylinders. My original gameplan was to drop the oilpan and do a lower end inspection. While draining the oil, I got the faint smell of antifreeze. I pulled the oil filter, and seen evidence of a valve guide that bit the bullet. Both Mike and I agree that the head is cracked, and more than likely dropped a valve.

The brackets for the coil pack rail are very easy to address

The bigger issue is how to adapt the 2000 exhaust manifold to the 0630 head. The ports are a bit different (bigger on the head) and will leak with the 2000 exhaust. To fix this you can either swap headers, or make/buy an adapter plate. I'll look for a schematic to make one.

Here's what you're dealing with - pretty big difference
0630:
0331:

confirmed wilsmick over on NAXJA that makes the 0331 exhaust to 0630 head adapter plates has some in stock and ships to your door for $110.

Jimmy you sure it's a 0630 head? 94s came with the 7120 head.

Doesn't really matter though, the only difference between those two really is the coolant temp sensor port

Words can not express my gratitude to both of you for coming to my home and diagnosing my little girls problem. I noticed Jimmy has a head for $200 and saw another post about a part for $110 that I would need in order to modify something.....LOL. Just let me know what to get and I'm on it. I'm, not sure how many are coming to make this repair but I'll make sure you something to eat <chicken, subs, pizza> and for those that like an ice cold chilly one I'll have that covered as well.

I always wanted brothers and now I've got quite a few. When the weather warms I want to go wheelin as I've never done it before and I also like to fish. The next thing I'm thinking is perhaps just a little bit of a lift. Is it possible to put on step rails to make it easier for me to get in and out, short arthritic legs and xj are not a match made in heaven......LOL Enjoy this marvelous weather we are having today and thanks again.

I'll check it when we go down to replace the head, but I can almost guarantee you that is not the problem....
