Default 2000 Jeep Cherokee suggestions

I just bought a 2000 Jeep Cherokee, has low mileage on it. I am looking for a mild wheeler that has 35" mud tires on it. I know these trucks are unibody so I can not do a body lift. So how much of a suspension lift do I need to properly clear 35" mud tires, and what brand do you recommend?

What things do I need to do to get my jeep ready for offroad use. I read that since I have an automatic transmission if I dont do something to waterproof it I will be frying the thing fast.

Thanks for the advice

Matt

firat off what rear do you have? if its the d35 i would advise running a 35" tire. so first you would have to change the rear. i believe to clear 35's you would have to have 6.5 " lift and maybe some triming, not real sure maybe some of the other guys can help you out alittle more. oh welcome to cf from ky.

that much lift and 35's require some serious modifcations and money you would most likly want to get long arms and if its a DD i would sudgest rubicon express i have heard they make great stuff but your aslo going to need a SYE and new driveshaft not to mention Re-Gearing and if you do have a dana35 rear end they are not as strong as the Chrysler 8.25 but if you do have a D35 u might as well swap in a ford 8.8 or get alloy shafts. needless to say its going to take some serious work and your pocketbook will be bleeding

I agree with the above statements that have been assessed. You may be able to get away with 4.5" of lift but more fender trimming since you are mainly looking to mud and not rocks. JMHO though.
