Default 2000 Jeep Cherokee Classic Rear End?

My XJ has a Dana 35 rear end. i bought it from a guy who used to pull a boat with it because he installed the tow package. Well we thought it wasn't no issue and bought it. Well once you start getting up to speed a noise from the rear end start to come up. Sounds like a howling/rowring noise. I'm thinking that it might be a pinion bearing or something.

I have the SAME noise in my 8.25 and it turned out to be the carrier bearing. I changed both axle bearings and there is absolutely no play in the drive shaft so it must be the carrier bearing in my case...Tj

If you dont plan on running bigger tires on your jeep, its decent to replace the needed bearings, But if you plan on running bigger tires look for an 8.25 out of the junk yard. they normally run for about $150 at the JY's.

however what you describe sounds like a pinion bearing(is it leaking) or like mentioned the carrier bearings

I'm planning on lifting it up 3 or 3.5 inchs and putting 31's or 32's. No it doesn't leak at all. It's just making noises. I have Abs on my Jeep and i'm wanting to keep them but from what i have researched the Chrysler 8.25 doesn't come with the abs.

no it does not come with ABS and with 31/32's you will be okay. Are you planning on doing the bearing change yourself or having someone else do it?

My fathers a mechanic and knows how to do all that stuff without a problem. I'm plan to just buy the parts and go to his shop and disassemble the rear and replace all the bearings.
