Does your temp gauge tell u when coolant temp has reached 218F? Where is 218 on the gauge anyhow? Does your a/c have a pressure gauge to remind u to turn on the efan? But, if you can't fix it, hard wiring the fan is an alternative. My dash has an engine temperature gauge (that I pay attention to) so for someone who likes a little more control, having a switch on hand might be a good solution. And, since it's a permanent solution for me, I wouldn't describe it as a band-aid.
