Default 2000 Cherokee Camshaft Position Sensor Leaks oil

Hello,
I am new to the Jeep thing! I have a 2000 Cherokee the is leaking oil around the Camshaft Position Sensor. (I think!) I degreased the engine to find out wher it was leaking and after a week i checked again. It is leaking just in front of the oil filet on a part labeled 56041020. I did a search and it says its the Camshaft Position Sensor. I assume they way it is mounted that I can't just take it out and replace the gasket or O-ring. What is the best bet? Thanks alot for all your help. Bill in Indy

look more closely. the leak will either be the oil presure sendor or the oil filter o-rings or valve cover. The CPS is inside of the distributor.

no distributor on a 2000, just a cam position sensor and a coil pack. there is an o-ring on that sensor that could leak. just remember that it is just like a distributor and needs to timed to the engine. if you remove the two screws and the cover, you should see some alignment marks. line them up and you should be fine. also, it drives the oil pump so if it doesn't go in, check that alignment.

Hello, I replaced the o-rings on the oil filter adapter and taped up both fittings on the oil pressure sensor. It still leaks. The camshaft position sensor ( http://www.tapcointernational.com/st...on-sensor.html ) # 56041020 has what appears to have some gasket material hanging out of where it mates to the engine. I guess I need to scribe a line and pull it all out and replace the gasket. Thanks for all your help. ( I ssume I will be removing the single bolt attaching it to the block instead of the 2 small bolts attaching the sensor)
