I have an extra ECU I took out of a 2000 Cherokee sport. My 2001 has been throwing random codes, so I figured why not swap them. Are these ECU's plug and play? I seem to be finding conflicting info online about it.

Did the 2000 ecu come out of a coil rail ignition?

The 2000 and 2001 XJ used coil packs. Shouldnt have any issue there. Some 2000 had 2 o2 sensors, some had 4. All 2001 had 4. And if one has anti-theft and the other does not, it will need programmed.

What are these random codes? Could be nothing more than dirty grounds. What have you done so far?
