What is the major difference between the air cleaner box that pokes through the grill and the one that pulls air from the engine compartment? I have both and up until recently I thought that 95 and older had this longer style. Was it part of a package of some kind? Is one better than the other?

Well im not sure which package it was, but it did have to do with how the intake inlet was ran. The one elongated pulling air from behind the headlight and grill will pull cooler air, therefore being slightly more efficient. The inlet ending in the engine bay (most common) will be pulling warmer air therefore being slightly less efficient. However, in all reality the difference is going to be very minimal. If you just happen to have the box with the elongated inlet then i'd throw it on, otherwise its not really worth the small difference
