Default 2.5L lifters

Hi all, had a nice weekend doing a timing chain and a few other good little things to my 96, got rid of a lot of problems i was having. One thing though, my lifters are ticking pretty badly. The usually get quiet after it warms up. Was wondering how hard it is to replace them in the 2.5L engine? Can i pull them from the top or do i need to yank the head? Tried searches all over but couldnt find anything. Thanks in advance!

All i need to know is can u pull the lifters out without pulling the head? Im new to jeeps, i came from the aircooled VW world, so completely different. Mine are making a racket on startup and i want to fix it.

I would think that the 2.5L is like the 4.0L and NO you can't pull the lifters up thru the pushrod hole. Need to pull the head.

The lifters (at least on a Wrangler 2.5) can be taken out without removing the entire head - just the valve cover. Not sure if the 2.5 is the same in the XJ.

Lifters are 0.903" diameter. Just measure the pushrod hole.

Interesting video, the dude is completely oblivious to the contaminated oil at the end.
