Default 1999 XJ Orvis cruise control issue

Hi there my names Alastair, I am from Scotland and I have a minted black XJ orvis thats my pride and joy

However lol

Recently the cruise control wont work

Green light comes on but will not set

anyone any experience with this?

JEEPS unfortunately aint the thing here its mainly landrovers (all go eeewwwghh)
so to get any help means go to JEEP main dealer who charge £90 a hour ($180) with Min 2 hours

So hopefully some nice people here can help me out.

4 years ago when i first got the jeep i put it into jeep to hget an electrical fault fixed (interior lights would not go off and drained battery) found out all i had done was twist the light control left by mistake but still got charged £180 ($360)

So any light shed much appreciated

Kind regards

The Hood

A cruise control needs a couple things in order to work. Sound like you have power since the Cruise indicator light comes on, so that's one down. Next is to check the brake switch on the pedal. There may be a seperate switch just for the cruise and then another one for the actually brake lights, or they may be combined in one switch. Another thing would be to check the vacume line going to the cruise control selenoid, usually found on the Right side inner fender under the hood/bonnet. If your's is a right hand drive it may be in a different location. From here it gets a bit more difficult. The next two things to check are the speed sense wire and the actual cruise control selenoid diaphram.

Check those first two things and let us know what you find.

One thing i can say is that the brakes were done not long ago and hasnt since worked. I have a sneeking feeling the brakes might be binding ever so slightly at the back. Could this be a issue?

Probably not, unless it's causing the brake pedal to be in a position that would activate the switch.

feels like back is dragging, and fuel consumptions a bit worse

when I got it it was almost brand new in the way it drove and looked

another thing that it does and has done since new is that the fan seems to bee on an awful lot
