Default 1999 Cherokee check engine light question?

Cranked Cherokee this am and check engine light came on. I checked fluids etc all looked good. Runs fine no issues. I then took truck to 2 places (not stealership)with code readers and both told me no codes are showing up? I've never had a vehicle that didn't show a code when light fixes to on. Is there some kind of factory or dealership code reader? I was going to just unhook battery and see if knight goes away
Any thoughts?
Thanks

if it is a manufacture specific code they may not show up.

but chances are, you just need to read it with a newer scan tool.

fluids typically dont have anything to do with cel's

keep driving it, it will either stay on or go away.. either way put some more miles on it

If the lamp illuminated there is a stored code which must be eventually erased after repair. Disconnecting the battery won't reset anything except the stereo.

VERY BAD ADVICE!!!
Keep try to get the codes read. The light is there to tell you that there is a problem. The longer you wait and keep driving it as is the more likely the bigger the problem you will have down the road.

Yes the light is on and stays on. I took truck to autozone and used there reader and to a local reputable repair shop for there reader. Both gave nocode.? I do not like the local dealer but I guess that is my only option other to keep searching. So unhooking battery for 5 min will -not- reset code? Is there a particular code reader someone can recomend for cherokees?

thanks

If you have a smartphone, you could get one of the Bluetooth ODB II code readers. $24 on Amazon.

BAFX Products (TM) - PIC18F2480 Bluetooth OBD2 scan tool - For check engine light and other diagnostics - Android compatible : Amazon.com : Automotive BAFX Products (TM) - PIC18F2480 Bluetooth OBD2 scan tool - For check engine light and other diagnostics - Android compatible : Amazon.com : Automotive

You also need to get a good app for it though too.

It will clear the light but if there is an actual problem it will come back on. You can give it a try by disconnecting the battery and touch the cable end together and that should clear the light. Some say to disconnect the battery and let it sit for awhile. I have never done it that way. Touching the two wire does the same thing as letting it sit.
