Not unheard of to need multiple flushes, also check for broken/leaking vacuum lines that run to the "jeep egg" on the front bumper.

Make sure the vacuum line is hooked up to the valve that opens and closes under the hood that controls the water going into your heater core. Have somebody switch your heater controls from cold to hot while you watch the valve to make sure the rod is opening and closing.

You can also grab the heater core lines going into and coming out of the heater core, if the heater core is plugged up, the inlet hose will most likely be hot, and the return hose will be luke warm......

maybe see if the cable attached to the control **** is attached or broke. I have to reach under and "assist" my cable along with the **** to control temp. cable is visible under the dash on the passenger side. coming from center... cant miss it.

What controls the heat when you turn the heat up and down inside the cab, is it climate control on the 97?

The blend door closes over the heater core. The HCV was a back up planto the blend door, to stop water from flowing through Heater Core. Said door is controled by vacuum. Most people delete the HCV when it breaks.

What does the 97 use for a control valve? Is it climate control like my Dads 2000 Grand Cherokee?

That was a major PAIN IN THE A$$ to change out the hot/cold air flapper when it broke on the passengers side, it cant blow hot air when the flap brakes, it has to brake on the COLD side..... had to gut the entire dash to get to the air box, then split the air box in half for a 20 dollar updated flap

There is not a heater control valve, its a flapper controlled by vacuum. In the XJ it defaults closed (no heat), coolant flows through the heater core all the time.
