Hello Fellow Jeepers...

I have a rather odd question. My 97 xj country is missing its under hood light bulb. The connector is a single contact on the bottom center. I had autozone look it up and it came up as a Sylvania 140 bulb. They don't sell it and I googled it and couldn't find it. Is this the right bulb or is there another bulb that should fit? Help please. Thanks.

I should also note that the 97 is different from the 96 (pre face lift) and the 98 + 99 (as my buddy has a 98 and 99 xj (both stock)).

if I were you I would take out your old bulb and try and match it up

 

You can use any single contact single filament bulb. Even an 1156 bulb has the same base just brighter with a larger glass. Go to the store and use the 1157 bulb base as an example. Then just get a smaller glass if it wont fit. I use the 1156. Good luck

 

According to NAPA's web site, a '97 Cherokee should use a "105" bulb for the underhood lamp. The local store in my area shows 14 in stock, so it should be fairly common.
