My best friend's 1997 Jeep Cherokee is having an issue where it will stall when put in reverse, and sometimes not start at all. The starting issue can be resolved by disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it and then the car will start. The reverse problem continues. Quick google search reveals both could be related to a bad crank position sensor, or possibly the pcm unit has gone bad.

Let me know what you all think could help him out. I appreciate everyone's help in advance, I will keep everyone posted if he tries your fixes and if they do ultimately resolve his issues.
