Default 1997 Cherokee front locker?

I have a completely stock 1997 Up-country package cherokee. Under full turn...the outside wheel acts like a locked diff and starts biting at the pavement and screeching. I'm not getting any weird wear anywhere and it drive nice and straight on the highway...could I possibly have a front locker? Did Jeep ever offer one?

I've owned this Jeep for about 7 months now so I am not the original owner and I have not opened the front diff yet. Just wondering if there was ever a factory from lsd/locker option for the XJ.

I don't think Jeep ever offered a factory locker in the front, just a LSD in the rear, but I could be wrong. You could always jack it up and spin the tires to figure out if its locked or not.

Not from the factory, but you have straight shafts so there's always force on both front tires when they turn.

Mine does the same thing & it does not have a locker in it.

I have the 242 t-case. Which do you have?

engage the 4x4 and see if there is any difference in a slow corner. maybe its just stuck in 4x4.
by the way, its normal to have the tires mike some noise at full steering lock when driving.

Excellent, so it sounds like just a normal XJ thing.

I'll drop the diff cover soon and update if for some reason I do have a non-factory front locker.
