Looking for ideas, my xj will not start unless i jump the starter. I replaced the neutral safety switch (NSS) but problem persists, starts intermently. Any ideas for the next thing to look at would b appreciated

 

Have you checked alternator or battery output?

 

Did you adjust the NSS? Can you get it to start by jockeying the shifter around?

Check for power at the small third wire on the starter when you turn the key. If +12V is present, the problem is downstream- the starter solenoid most likely. If no power on the third wire when the key is turned, check the NSS adjustment, start relay in the PDC, ignition switch and plug...

 

My battery and alternator work good. I did adjust the NSS , reverse lights working and no start when i move shifter around. I will check the start relay Monday

 

did you actually check for voltage on the battery and alternator or are you assuming they are good? Not to be rude but you need to check

 

Do you get power to smaller wire on starter with key in start position?
