Default 1996 XJ Front bumper removal HELP

I'm about to remove the front bumper on my 1996 Cherokee because there is a dent in it and I want to bang it out.

Is there any guide or anything showing how to remove the front bumper...I've heard its going to be a complete pain...but the dent really needs to be fixed and I want to try it myself.

If anyone can help me I'd appreciate it! Thanks!

idk if its any different from my 99, but there are mount plates on either side to connect bumper to unibody, there are 3 bolts on each side. i think removing the bolts is all thats required. my rear is super easy- 2 bolts on each mount plate and done. it took all of 15 min. to do. good luck!

I have to remove the front off my 96 too. I haven't taken it off yet cuz i'm going to order or have a beefier one built. However, I've taken a peek and noticed the tow hooks are going to have be removed so that I can get to the big torx bitted bolts mounting the bumper.

So did you guys get the bumper off? I am going to take mine off of my 96 and make it easier to mount the brackets for my off-road and fog lights as well as clean it up a bit.

99 is slightly different than a 96 due to the aero flare/bumper endcap, compared to the earlier style black end cap separate from the flare.

Mine was a pain because the nut/clamp things that hold the front two bolts on each side in broke with me upon removal. We were able to reuse them, just made it harder to put the bumper back on since they wouldn't stay in place on their own.

Pulling the front bumper is marginally more difficult then putting gas in.

Thanks blue on black xj..... I think I can handle that. Sounds like it will be easier than tearing out the dash and center console for wiring switches and radio installation.

Tearing the dash is the easy part, routing the wires from the radio and trying to get the wiring and radio back in the tiny hole is the hard part.

I will agree with you on that! All I have left of that part is to mount the antennas and run the coax.

It was easy. I just used the 4 torx bolts. It came off and went on fairly easily. Did break one of the clips. May replace with a nut and lock washer.
