Quite a variety here. I'm running KYB Mono-Max on my stock '96:

Actually this belongs in the OEM Cherokee forum. Maybe a mod will move it.

I went with the better Napa shocks, which I am pretty sure are rebranded Monroes, on my stock '00. They do have a lifetime warranty. Looks like there is a rebate till 4/30.

Couple tips. Soak everything for a bit with PB Blaster. Be prepared to break the upper rear shock bolts. Plenty of write ups about this so don't get nervous. Most people whack out the tack welded nut that is in the cavity and fish through new hardware with mechanics wire. Or use these which are pretty neat.

I just put the low end Gabriel Red shocks on my 85 and they have been good for street driving. I will upgrade once I get more things done so I can take it offroad. Those usually run about $20 each or less at AutoZone.

Rock Auto has a pretty good price & selection. In addition they have links to rebates for Monroe ($50/four shox), and 4 for the price of three on Gabriel. Also, they have a 5% discount deal: 5% Discount Code: F8C42D20307B6B; Expires: June 20, 2017. This way you can upgrade one level above stock ride for less than most low end shocks. FWIW I have had good results with Monroe premium shox & Gabriel premium shox. Have Rock Auto supplied Monroes on a 95 GC, Gabes on a 98 GC, Delcos on a 00 GC. All were a big improvement over stock. Buying a set of Rough County's for my MJ today.
