Have done some search but haven't turned up much. The AC was blowing cold then just quit. Clutch is not engaging. Can't tell if there is any freon in the system.

Would appreciate a steer towards some common causes.

Leaks are the most common cause. Jump the low pressure cycling switch on the receiver/drier and the compressor should kick on. If it does, it's time to look for a leak.
