Default 1996 cherokee

Hi i have a 1996 cherokee, a straight six, and it seems to be over heating. First of all, its smoking from the engine and when i open up the oil cap, tones of smoke comes out..its burning oil. secondly when the car gets hot the radiator reserve gets filled up and the anti freeze seems like its boiling. could this be a thermostat? any ideas? thank you!

Take your stat. off, after the engine is completely cool. Is it stuck open? If its closed, hold a torch to it and see if it springs open
