1995 xj dana 30
My boss got a 95 xj last year. They said the 4wd did not work. I looked at it recently and saw there was no front driveshaft. Ok, so its not gonna work like that. I also noticed that the dana 30 had that disconnect thing on the pass side axle tube. Is that supposed to be on a 95? Its a part time 231 setup. Im thinking that they changed the front axle with an older unit with the wrong gear ratio and just left the driveshaft off. Is the disconnect axle wrong for a 95?

Vacuum disconnect got phased out during '91 I believe, maybe a couple carried over to '92, either way by 95 they had been switched over.
What's the gear ratio? Are we sure it started as a 4x and wasn't just in the midst of a conversion?

Yeah, its a factory 4x4. I think someone needed the front diff for something else and just threw this one in there to sell it. I dont know the ratio. I just know what I could see through the engine bay. We were hoping to just throw a driveshaft in it but this probably puts an end to that idea. Is the vacuum thing engaged or disengaged when there is no vacuum applied?

U can just pop off covers on both axles (great if u haven't replaced the fluid yet) and count the gear ratio. It's only way to be sure.
