What am I missing ???????? ( maybe I found the problem? )
Chased the positive cable and it looks like it runs to two place .....
#1 Battery -----> Fuse Block Input
#2 Battery -----> Starter Motor
Now I disconnected BOTH the Starter Motor and Fuse Block Input from the battery cable.
Positive Connector still reading short to ground ?????
The cable to the starter looks like it is routed down and under the Engine Mount.
It feels really tight in that area and may be pinched???
Does what I said above make any sense?????

Disconnected from starter and fuse block still getting a short to vehicle ground.
I am using a FLUKE Digital Multimeter in it's " tone mode " ... short the two leads together and it goes BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP .... until you disconnect.

Yeah!
I would like to see another 95 XJ to see how the cable is routed in the area of that motor mount.
This one seems tight inside the mount as if when he went off the road it move enough as did the cable and pinched it inside/under the mount.

Now on to the next problem ... different vehicle/different problem.
I'll tell ya, if I had $120K laying around I buy three brand new vehicles for the kids to run.
Used to have 4 of them here ..... 2 XJ's and 2 ZJ's.
Down to one of each due to wrecks .... that's life I guess.
The wrong ZJ got hit from behind!
Just looking at both of my 96s, the positive cable is mounted over the top of the motor mount and abd go down to the starter. Both are in that black plastic harness casing/looming junk, not a bad thing to help with wire chafing.

Cable in there is OEM so it being run the way it is probably done by the factory unless a previous owner removed it and reran it the way it is.
The plastic conduit is in the Jeep now, and it will be used when redone with new conduit, brackets and everything else I need to do the job.
I'l guarantee the new cable will not be able to do what the current one did.
I suspected all along a short to ground in the hot cable considering the meltdown and blowout of that positive terminal.
As to the using a test light and pulling the fuses one at a time, I decided why not just disconnect the fuse block and removed ALL the fused circuits at one time.
Did that and still had the short so I knew it had to be between the battery and starter. Disconnected the starter and still had the short to ground leaving only the cable as the culprit.
I'll try to get a pic of the old cable wrapped under the engine mount and post it for all to see and maybe someone can explain how it got there.
