Default 1995 Tachometer Problem

I just finished cleaning up my engine a little bit with some Super Clean that I got this morning and went over to my buddy's place but on the way over I noticed my tachometer wasn't working at all. All the other gauges are fine but the tachometer doesn't move at all, check out this video:

Any help would be greatly appreciated because I have no idea how the electrical system works.

Edit: ok, this may seem weird but I was checking the transmission fluid and once I went to turn off the engine I noticed the tach moved to around 500 rpm idling. Hopefully it is fixed, if you know what happened please let me know

Edit 2: I tried again and it doesn't work anymore! WTH is going on?

Do you have a '95 Factory Service Manual? Section 8E gives troubleshooting procedures for Tach problems.

If you don't have a FSM, you might want to go to Pacific Coast Manuals and buy the PDF version they have - $7.95 US.

http://www.pacificcoastmanuals.com/j...e_manuals.html

It may boil down to a defective tach indicator. See if you can find one.

Don't know what years are the same tach but OBD-II instrument clusters are different than the OBD-I clusters so you are limited as to what XJ you can get one from. OBD-II started in '96.

Hey, thanks for the reply. For some reason the problem ended up fixing itself, I feel like a little water just got somewhere it wasn't supposed to and dried up and now its fine.
