Default 1995 - Jeep Cherokee 4WD - AC Wires are getting Hot

1995 - Jeep Cherokee
4-Wheel Drive
4.0 Six Cylinder
Basic Vehicle

The AC Control Module has 2 Primary sets of Wires plugging into it. The wire harness on the right side is getting hot, to the point that eventually it burns up the connector to the point that it won't make contact with the AC Control unit and therefore the AC and/or the Heater Fan won't turn on.

I have tried replacing the Control Switch (Module) Twice. Both units get "Real Hot" when trying to run the Air Conditioner. The "Center" of this Control Switch Module gets VERRY Hot, but it seems to be the "Wires" that end up melting.

I have "NO Idea" what is causing this. I checked the fan and Squirrel cage underneath the hood, and it seems to spin "ok", But I'm not sure how good my "ok" is. Does it put a "Strain" on the switches if the Fan is not turning very easily??

I just went to a Salvage yard and "Cut out" some new wire harnesses to replace the "Burned one" currently in my Jeep. I know if I just replace the harness, that within 6 months...... in will be Burned up to....

PLEASE HELP....... It's over a 100 degrees in Oklahoma and I have "NO A/C".......

Thanks....

Kary

Check the resistance through the connectors, high resistance=heat.

Replace the resistor ifitlooks anything like 95% of them look at this point.

It's located under the pass side of the dash, hidden behind a plastic cover.

Also, good possibility that the connector for your fan switch is no longer any good. They melt, snd the terminals inside make contact with each other. You can replace this pigtail, or just eliminate the connector. To help lengthen the life of these components in the future, don't run the fan at full boogy(max AC, fan on high).

Default How to Check Resistance?

Thanks Turbo X_J for your reply.

How do I check for "Resistance" I have a "Multi-meter", and I know how to check Voltages and Amps, but never learned how to do "Resistance".

Can it be done if the Wire Plug is removed from the AC Control switch or do you have to "pierce" the wires while everything is plugged in and the car is running with the AC turned on.
