Default 1994 xj 4.0 sputter and backfire under accel

Hey guys. Looking for some help here. Starting just the other day, My jeep would backfire and sputter from 1500-2000 rpms while cruising down the highway. I changed the fuel pump because i already had one and the pump was making some bad noise. The problem doesnt occur until the engine is warmed up. I also changed the tps since i thought it was deadspot in the sensor. What should i check/test next? Any info would be very helpful. Thanks!

Fuel pressure regulator would be high on the list to check. Also you could have a clogged catalytic converter.

This issue could be the result of one or many things. Best bet is to go through your electrical/ignition system thoroughly checking and cleaning all contact points. The next thing I would do is to check all sensors in the engine bay- things like TPS, IAC and o2 sensors can be commonly associated with this sort of issue. Good luck. Also.. Check your fuel tank for anything that may be disrupting fuel delivery.

Ok. I will check that stuff. I also forgot to mention that it leans out so bad when this happens it makes the manifold red hot.

Def fuel delivery related then, I'd guess. I say o2 sensor..

Is there any thing that could cause the ignition timing to become retarded terribly> This can cause the red manifold along with sputtering and no get up and go. It can mimic a lean condition.

Problem is still ongoing.... Timing would be controlled by the cam sensor in the dizzy correct? I will have to take all that apart tonight and see if i can find anything.
