Just a thought, but is your dimmer turned down?

You have separate fuses in your 91 XJ for:

1.) Instrument Panel Lights
2.) Parking Lights
3.) Turn Signals
4.) Head Lights

Check them all. I'd say somebody has had their inexperienced meat hooks in that wiring behind your dash, though.

I'm having nearly the same problem. None of my lights in the dash or console work, but I still have headlights and blinkers. Also my CD player cuts out when I turn the steering wheel.

Edit: It's worth adding that I've ran through all my fuses and they are all okay.

Brandon, I really don't mean to sound like a smart *** when I say this but, is the connector behind the instrument panel properly connected?

I haven't messed with the connector, i just looked to make sure it was hooked up. They guy i bought it from said they worked when he was driving it, but then he let it sit for a year.

I don't mean the radio. I mean there is a connector directly behind where the Speed O is up underneath the dash. It clips into the backside of the instrument cluster. I want to know if this connector is connected. Because with what you are describing, I.E. nothing in the instrument panel working. This would definitely cause that.

have you tried the arthur fonzarelli approach? AKA give it a couple love taps on top of the dash.

The dimmer switch on your light switch can cause your dash lights not to work. That wouldn't explain your gauges and dash idiot lights not working, though.
