Dealer part. Unscrew the old one, screw in the new one.

The "intended" drive is to use a Torx socket - but it's fairly common to snap them at the neck trying to get them out. If that happens, grab a Dremel with a grinding wheel and grind flats on it, then grab it with a wrench or pliers (you will not be able to grab it without flats! I've tried...)

Be careful driving the new one in - same problem. Replace both, but buy at least three...

The Lid Stay on the tail gate is attached to a ball on the tail gate and on the inside opening of the frame. The lid stay holds open the tail gate unit. This ball/fastener is removed with a torx bit. This ball appears to be attached behind the frame with a nut that was probably welded in the factory. This nut has come loose and I cannot remove this from the frame to replace. The lid stay keeps falling off and this ball appears to be worn. A dealer suggest that I cut around the ball, replace the ball and nut and re-weld back the section to the frame. Has anyone had this problem before and what might be a better solution? Does this help?
