1990 Driver's Electric Window Problem

1990 Driver's Electric Window Problem
Last night I went to roll up my driver's window on my '90 XJ and it would not move - just one small click noise every time I tried the switch.
I did a quick internet search on my phone and found a post that said to hit the inside of the door (between the speaker and the map case) while trying the switch. It worked!
So... now I need to know why this worked so that I can fix it. I did a search again today and found the thread, but it didn't say what the real problem is. Another post said that 1990 electric windows were unique to that year XJ. Is that true?
Any suggestions on what the problem might be?
- Electrical?
- Regulator?
- Motor?
