1990 Cherokee ignition switch

Trying to put new ignition lock switch in but when new one is in cant get the key to come out .
Any buddy know what's going on?

Are you sure the cylinder & rod are indexed correctly? In other words adjust the position of the ignition switch on the column.

Someone tried to still it made a mess don't think old
One was in lock position when it was removed. Can't get rod to tern back anymore so it can line up.
