I have a 1989 Jeep Cherokee with no leaks.
This year all of a sudden when I hold the clutch in it will slowly engage into gear like the cylinder is leaking.
The only thing I can compare it to is a bad brake cylinder that was leaking that would lose pressure so I would have to pump it up to keep the pressure up.

Would a bad master cylinder or hydraulic throwout bearing cause a loss of pressure but not lose any fluid?
Could it be just an air pocket in the line?

I just don’t know.

Hi, I think it is almost certainly master/slave slave cylinders. When worn the fluid gets past the "o" rings and seals causing the loss of pressure and resultant clutch engagement. Exactly as you said about brake cylinder leakage. It is better to buy them pre charged, slave and master come precharged with the connecting pipework. DO NOT take the nylon locating stap on the slave pushrod off, this MUST be fitted with it on . Then when you first actuate the pedal after fitting, the nylon locater holding the pushrod in breaks. Its there to keep the pressure in the precharged sytem. If you take it off before fitting you will lose the pressure as the rod comes out of the slave too far. Cheers. Mike

 

yes the clutch master can do the same thing look under to see if theres any brake fluid leaking from the bell housing because the hydralic throw out bearing is inside the bell housing if theres no fluid i would change the clutch master first jm2cw
