Default 1989 Cherokee 5 speed manual (foreign) trans.

Hi!~All haven't been on line for a while, but this was the first time in a long time that my 1989 Cherokee Laredo 5 speed manual trans locked up.

I just pull the shift stick and put a tire iron in there and move something and put the handle back in and it works again.

Any one else have this problem?
I can't remember if I talked about this before...couldn't find it.

Wish I could resolve this problem before I get stuck somewhere without any tools.

Thanks!~jretzky

Default 1989 Cherokee 5 speed manual (foreign) trans.

Good Morning!~I had the trans (BA/10) rebuilt at a transmission place.

It shifted really hard so I took it back and the guy worked on it some more.

He said the synchronizers were made out of aluminum.

So he put in some $26. / quart trans fluid.

It has been at least a year since it locked up.

At one point I thought it was a problem with the shifter stick.

Never could find one at a yard.

Remember it locks up in neutral.

It takes me at least 20 minutes to take out the stick and move something in the trans and put it back together.

It has always happened at home so that made it easy to work on.

All you need is a 10 mm socket, extension, ratchet, and long tire iron.

Well just for your info...it has a new clutch throw out bearing and clutch master cylinder deal for the trans.

I thought the engine was going to blow up years ago because it knocks when I start it. It has 170,000 miles on it, but it keeps running every day.

I check the oil and it never seems to burn any.

Thanks!~jretzky.
