Default 1988 Seat Swap?? I am lost

Hello everyone! I am new to the forum and will probably be a frequent visitor as I have just purchased my very first Jeep. I will apologize in advance for what may seem as blatant ignorance ha ha.

So I got my 88' Jeep Cherokee Base yesterday. She's not the most gorgeous thing but the 4cyl 4spd works great and 4wd is solid. However in addition to the rusted through rear floor pans (that's going to be a chore) the front seats smell like CAT PEE.

Before I can even drive the car I have to get these seats and this smell out. So the question is can I swap in any old xj seats and bases or do I have to be specific about which year I am putting in. I have done some research and haven't found anything to useful. I encountered some info about not being able to swap years due to trans tunnel?

I have a built track car so I'm perfectly fine with grabbing some seats and bases out of another xj that may not have the same floor bolt pattern and fabbing something up. (However this is not my preferred method)

Thanks in advance everyone!

Carson

Oh wow really? Thank you very much! So I guess in response to that someone also told me that the bases or brackets changed in 95 however the bolt pattern on the bottom of the seats stayed the same. So in theory you would remove the bracket/base from the 97 (just using that year as an example) and be able to bolt that seat right on to my existing 88 base/bracket. Does. This make sense and if so is this true? Thanks!
