I recently bought a 88 jeep grand Wagoner. It's the xj platform with the 4.0l. A few things I noticed different so far other than the wood paneling and a few bells and whistles is it has a selectable 2wd, part time, 4hi and 4lo transfer. So does this mean it has a VC? Also is there any difference between driveline or drivetrain between the grand Wagoner vs the cherokee?

No viscous coupling. A set of planetary gears as a diff. The NP242 transfer case was also available in the Cherokee. Both models are considered the XJ platform. Originally Posted by B1e9a8u7

And, it's a Wagoneer, not Grand Wagoneer. Same drivetrain as a Cherokee.

It actually says grand Wagoner?
The grand wagoneer was a full size Jeep wagon based on the 1/2 ton truck chassis in 88 and other years.

XJ Waggy. Not a SJ Grand Wagoneer.

I want to kick the marketing idiot that decided to take the Cherokee name, stick "Grand" in front of it, and slap it on a different vehicle.

I am with you guys. Always was fond of the dual headlight setup. Reminds me of a '77 Monte I used to own.Originally Posted by BlueRidgeMark

It's better lighting, too, IMO.

Was more of luxury options,The Wagoner name is old then it went to a grand Wagoner on the fsj before they canned the body off.The xj had the Wagoner trim a few years and the zj got it one or two years only.
