Just bought my 1988 cherokee a few months ago. It had a few minor problems I knew I could fix but now has one that I don't know a thing about. The radiator resevoir cap blew off the other day, which obviously was an easy fix, but apparently there's more going on. After replacing the cap, I got about 2 blocks from my house and it started running hot. My next thought was the thermostat so I replaced that. Not the problem either. Now I see that there's actually coolant blowing out from around the reservoir cap even though it's very tightly screwed on. Any suggestions? I don't have alot of mechanical ability but can do simple fixes.

Well, overheating can be caused by many things. Not only the thermostat, but also your water pump, radiator itself, fan clutch, hoses. Try draining and flushing the system. If that doesn't help, it'll be time to start replacing the components
