Thanks for everything so far.
I asked the guy for pictures and he told me to come look at it which makes me think he is lazy.
I would like know why people feel this motor sucks since there have been many negative comments towrads it. Also what kind of problems are most common with it.
On the other side to those who thought it was a good buy please elaborate.

Also, I have looked all over and for whatever reason the jeeps in my area for this price have super high miles. I know these things can run to 300k but I'd rather not start there =)

I can't really complain, my 2.8 runs good it just came new with 118 horse and a 4.0 is like 180 and h.o. 4.0's is like 190. The carburators bite on these cold winter mornings when I'm out there trying to keep it running the 4.0's are F.I. My 207 transfer comes with some stupid pop can top joint at the transfer which I'm fighting now. Lots and lots of reasons.

Ahh carbuerator in MN = lame. Well oh well.
Also, keeping in mind that this motor supposedly has 10k or less on it, does it seem like an ok buy?
I really just want to make sure before I sell my galant that I dont like, but it works, and end up buying a jeep that I want but ends up being a pile.

Dude if you really want it and it is a 2.8 there's ways around it. If it's got a solid body and runs good drive it. Then when you start havin trouble get a 3.4 out of a late model camero. That's what I'm gonna do. Even with a 2.8 It's a capable wheeler that's alot of fun.

Yah, I'm thinkin' I'm going to buy it either way. I mean heck, it only has like 10k on the motor, its bound to last at least a little while, haha. Now I just need someone to buy my car!

If you really want it just go for it man. Who knows you may end up with a good one. Just keep it full of oil and dont rev it up.

So my buddy who has had a Cherokee and currently has a wrangler said that its more difficult to do any sort of offroading with this thing because it has a carb because it will starve for fuel on steep hills and the engine will cut out. Is this true? Comments, suggestions???

People have wheeled with carburaters a hell of alot longer than with F.I. But the down side is he's right to a degree, F.I. is better, off camber and throttle response.

i just picked up a 95 2dr 4.0 5spd for 1600, u can definitly get better than this for the money. but it doesnt sound bad. if u really like it, nab it. but talk him down a bit so u can save some money. then keep an eye out for a rolled 91+ wrangler/cherokee. grab it with the rest of ur money and swap the FI 4.0 in. u might even luck out and get a 5spd with it (if u prefer sticks to autos like me )

I have an 85 XJ with the CARBed 2.8 V6.
I keep hearing about the 3.4 from the Camaro which im assuming is Fuel Injected.
Now what exactly is needed for this swap besides the long block?
My main concern is, will I have to convert to Fuel Injection? (Once again my 2.8 is carbureted).
Im looking for the most cost-effective and easiest swap possible.
I keep hearing about the 3.4 from the Camaro which im assuming is Fuel Injected.

I'm also not familiar with the carburated motors in Jeeps, but I'd think you'd need a fuel pump, fuel lines cuz carb motors usually don't have returns...etc.
