I recently traded for a 85 cherokee with the AMC 2.5L carbureted engine.
it does not have a mechanical fuel pump. the block isn't machined for it.
hard to find any pics/info on the low pressure electric fuel pump.
the original pump ,fuel filter are gone. not sure where the pump was mounted.
the feed line runs along the back of the firewall . PO had a higher pressure pump mounted on the firewall with a pressure regulator . runs very rich. loads up at idle. he had the return line hooked into the regulator. any info would be appreciated.

I wish it had a mechanical pump. The spot behind the distributor is not machined where it would mount . i will get a pic tommorow.

took some pics of my engine. does this look like a later engine? fuel pump hole not machined. had an electric fuel pump mounted on firewall.

 

non electric fuel pump 2.5 will not have a pl;ace to install a pump in the tank thats why there was a aftermarket electric fuel pump installed

 

Check the fuel pressure, 3-3 1/2 lbs . And elect. fuel pumps work better pushing fuel instead of pulling it, it should be in the back.
