Hi I believe my starter is gone, trying to remove it to test it and I have a few questions.

First off, there seems to be something in the way of pulling the starter off the engine. My dad seems to think it's the linkage or a stabilizer? But after unbolting the starter we can't pull it completely out of the housing due to obstruction.

My other question is, what other Cherokee starters will work on my 2.5L engine? I was told by a shop that example a 89 Cherokee starter (both 2.5L and 4L) will not work with my 85 Cherokee.

I was in a bit of a bind yesterday trying to get my Jeep out of a parking lot, but we were able to remove the starter and found a shop to rebuild it in less than 30 minutes. She's starting great again.
