16" donor wheels for my stock XJ
Hi,
I'm looking at doing a basic 3" block and spacer lift on my 98 XJ. My tires are tired so I've been looking at craigslist to see if I could find wheels and tires with a good amount of life remaining.
My problem is that I'm not certain what years of jeep wheels would fit. Stock is 15x5x4.5 and I've seen a number of newer wheels that are 16x5x5. Would these work but just be offset out .5" more than normal?
Thanks much!!
Alan

No they wont work.
Your stock wheels are 15 inches in diameter by problbly 8 or 10 inches wide.
the 5x4.5 is the spacing on the holes for the lugnuts. in other words your bolt pattern. your cherokee is 5 holes by 4.5" spacing and the newer jeeps are 5 holes by 5" spacing.
You could not fit the new wheels on your cherokee with out getting adapter spacers. and their alot of money
The 5x4.5 doesnt have anything to do with the backspacing.
If im remembering correct any Cherokee rim should fit but not all of the grand cherokees will. Old cj wheels will not fit either.

yj wrangler fit (87-95)
tj wrangler fit (97-04)
xj cherokee fit (84-01)
early zjs, don't know the years.
can also nab wheels of 80s dakots, and explorers, rangers. Explorers and rangers seemd to have a little less offset (stick out farther)
4.5=114.3mm mercedes, bmw, audi are all 5x 12mm. I have a set of audi wheels on my cherokee 0 problems. Not saying its safe, just that they fit. Technically with a smaller bolt pattern the nuts would only be touching the inner part of the nut seat, but i think the tolerances are slack enough that it isn't an issue

link found
I found a link to a bunch of Chrysler vehicles:
http://www.sporttruckspecialty.com/b...ryslerjeep.htm
Looks like my jeep came stock with 15x6 5x4.5 and optionally had a 16x7 wheel.
From the chart, here are a couple options:
liberty 02-on 16x7 5x4.5 (with a similar offset)
grand caravan sport 97-98 16x7 5x4.5 (higher offset)
grand caravan sport 99-on 17x7.5 5x4.5 (higher offset)
Looking at the other mfrs:
toyota rav4 96-on 16x7 5x4.5 (higher offset)
hyundai santa fe 01-on 16x7 5x4.5 (higher offset)
Now to find some Liberty wheels and tires.
Another bit I found:
Jeeps with 5 on 4.5" Bolt Pattern:
* 84-01 Cherokee (XJ)
* 86-92 Comanche (MJ)
* 93-98 Grand Cherokee (ZJ)
* 02-06 Liberty (KJ)
* 97-06 Wrangler (TJ)
* 87-95 Wrangler (YJ)
* 04-06 Wrangler Unlimited (TJ/LJ)
Jeeps with 5 on 5" Bolt Pattern:
* 06-08 Commander (XK)
* 99-04 Grand Cherokee (WJ)
* 05-08 Grand Cherokee (WK)
* 07-08 Wrangler (JK)
* 07-08 Wrangler Unlimited (JK)
Jeeps with 5 on 5.5" Bolt Pattern:
* 46-86 CJ (All Models)
* 63-73 Full Size Cherokee/Wagonner (SJ)
* 62-71 Galdiator Series Truck (All Models)
Jeeps with 6 on 5.5" Bolt Pattern:
* 74-83 J-10 Series Truck (All Models)
* 74-83 Full Size Cherokee/Wagoneer (SJ)
Jeeps with 8 on 6.5" Bolt Pattern:
* 74-83 J-20 Series Truck (All Models)
