Ok i just heard there would be because the 15X10 stretches the tire out more.

8"

holds the bead better

the 10" would also put much more stress on your wheel bearings, and you will chew through them more often.

I have been running 33x12.5 on 15x10 wheels w/ 4.5" backspacing and 4.5" Rough Country lift - no rubbing on control arms (fenders are trimmed). As stated by others, less backspacing places more of the tire out of the wheel well for a wider overall stance and more aggressive look. Less backspacing will definitely place more stress on your wheel bearings. I would think that backspacing would affect the wheel bearings more so than the width of the wheel.
Yes, an 8" wheel will probably hold a bead better but for mudding in NJ a 10" wheel should be fine. I have had my tires aired down to 15-20PSI on the beach and haven't had any problems.

Ok thanks for the info. Will a set of 35X12.5 fit on my jeep with no trimming? I am taking the flares off. My lift measures 5 in the back and 6 in the front i think.

So 15X10 rim with 3.75 backspacing will be hard on the bearings? How often would i go through them?

a 10" wheel with 4.5" of backspacing sticks out 2 more inches than an 8" wheel with 4.5" of backspacing, bringing the contact patch of that tire 1" further out. same stresses as if you went to an inch lower backspaced wheel.

the tire has alot to do with slipping beads off, i had tsl's that refused to stay on the wheel. 12.5" wide tire and 8" wide wheel. I have run other tires at the same pressure and never slipped a bead.

you won't notice any real difference on the wheel bearings at all.
i have 15x10 beadlocks with 2.75 backspacing and don't go through wheel bearings any quicker than when i had 15x8 with 3.75bs.

even though a 12.5 wide tire normally requires an 8 inch rim, i'd still go with the 15x10 as it will give you a more stable off camber feel and a more aggressive stance. not to mention, if you decide to go with a taller/wider tire later, you won't have to get new rims.

go 15x10

So what backspacing should i go with? 3.75 or 4 inches or should i go more? I don't want it to rub when i turn with a 12.5 inch wide tire.

are your fenders trimmed?
i would go with 3.75 or less.
4 inch might work, but 3.75 will move the tires away from the control arms more, sticking them out further apart giving you a meaner look.

This is a great thread.

Might be good as a photo thread too. Post a photo showing one side view, and one directly from the front (squirrel's eye view) .

Side view to show how it fits under fender (duh), and the front view to show far out (or in) it sticks from the body or flare.

Kinda like the Tire/Lift Setup thread. Would need to list the tire size, wheel specs, and lift (again, duh).

Just a thought.

I gotta take the tire plunge soon--very helpful thread...

I am only having an issue right now rubbing the rear of my front fenders when I turn sharp.... No rubbing on the control arms though. I think I am just going to trim the fenders a little bit more to curb the rubbing...

I got the 15x10 rims because I like the more aggressive look.....

If you are rubbing the back of the front fenders, then you must not have replaced your control arms. That would be an upgrade I would seriously look into.

I can assure you I do have a pair RC Lower Control Arms installed. I took them out of the box and we installed them. Could it be that they are too short? I did add ¾” spacers to the 3” springs and the arms are for a 3” lift.

What would benefit me more, new adjustable lower control arms, new adjustable upper control arms, or should I just get both?

Heres a link to the kit we installed.... Minus the 3/4" spacers and Adjustable 2" shackles
