Default 01 XJ Master Switch ?

I could use some opinions here...

On my '01 XJ I know the master switch can wear out and stop working and I'm also aware that the wiring between the drivers side door and cab can develop busted wires. I've actually had to repair wires in this location on my older '96 XJ.

The issue: My windows function at times, and then they don't at times. The drivers side window will roll up/down perfectly and then all the sudden not work at all. I can flip and flip the switch and finally I'll get the windows to work. I've replaced the OE switch on my Jeep w/a used one f/another person who said the switch worked fine on their XJ and I get the same issues. I pulled both switches apart, cleaned all the contact surfaces and added some dielectric grease and reassembled... The switches seemed to work well for a couple days, then back to working sporadically. One thing of note, the windows all seem to Roll DOWN every time, but rolling them back up is sporadic and usually takes a couple times of hitting the 'up' switch (along w/a few choice words... ha)

Would you guess the wires between the door/body are bad or the Master Switch (both of them) are bad? I hate to spend $100+ on a new Master switch only to find the wires are busted. Also, those rubber boots between the door/body are a pain to work around w/out cutting them (in my experience) and I'd hate to cut that if not necessary.

Thanks.

Check the actual connector going into the switches, make sure all the pins are snugly fitted and not bent or anything.

I have checked those, actually made sure they looked clean and added some dielectric grease to the plug-in to keep it from corroding. Makes me wonder if the grease is causing issues... Keeps me banging my head

At times the switch works perfectly, then the next time I go to roll the window up... nothing. Then after jiggling the switch a few times it works again... then nothing.

I would think of my wires in the door had failed, then the switch would quit working all the time.

It's for sure the wires in the rubber boot between the door and cab. They break. I've had to fix 3 of mine.

I will check that out. Do you have any tips/tricks for getting that rubber boot off or somehow working around it? I had to just slice mine and cut it off to get to the wires on my '96... then zip-tied it back on after finished.

Then I would say just start tracing wires. Got a good multimeter?

Not a northern folk, but it's been unseasonably cool here in Oklahoma... temps in the 70's and lots of rain (and Tornados) ... then it's goes f/ 70 to 95 and hot/sunny. That's a huge changeup in 24 hrs.

Normally it's in the upper 90's to 100s for weeks on end during this time, just NOT all at once. Ha.

Hey, considering half a month ago I had snow on the ground, I have every right to complain.
