Default 01 Sport= does the check engine light turn on when the key is on asseory?

I'm trying to figure out if my check engine light is supposed to turn on when the key is turned to accessory? Mine does not turn on at all but the check gauges light does. I'm trying to figure out if ahole old owner removed the bulb or its burned out.

Takes like 3 seconds to pop that cluster out of there & find out. Check engine lamp should illuminate when ignition is turned to "ON" & should go out a few seconds after engine is started. If it's "ON" with the switch in the accessory position the contacts in the ignition switch are FUBAR.

3 seconds? You must either be a superman or have never done it before...
To answer the OPs question, it stays on for a second or two with the key in the on position right before the engine starts.

I'm sorry I ment to say "run" position. Ok I'm gonna pull the cluster to see what the deal is and what might be wrong with my truck.
Thanks again

Rig still starts? The CEL is supposed to turn on for those couple seconds so you know the ECU is working. If that light doesn't come on but the jeep starts, then there is a problem with the bulb.

Yep my truck still runs and drives just fine. I pulled the cluster and the bulb was burned out. I replaced the bulb and nothing. It still doesn't light up for three seconds when the key is in the run position. I did the cluster test and it still didn't light up. I also scanned my truck for codes and I had one "303 bank three misfire" which I think was from vapor lock issue I have been having. I'm glad the plug in port still worked because I was worried there might of been somthing wrong with the vehicle diagnosis center of the vehicle.
