00 Cherokee Sport - Serpentine Belt Squeals
2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport with 4.0 straight six.
Everytime I turn the dial for the heat or a/c after starting the Jeep, the serpentine belt squeals. I've used belt dressing and even had it replaced. After a few minutes of driving on the highway, I turn it on and it's usually fine, but might start up again if I slow down.
I think it might be the a/c compressor going and if it is ...is there anyway I can disconnect it so that the wheel spins free. Because I rarely use the a/c.
Thanks

I would check the idler tensioner pulley to make sure it is tight with no more than a .25" play in the belt and then check it again after about 50 miles and if it becomes loose again, your tensioner pulley might need to be replaced. If you really don't care about the A/C, you can probably get a shorter belt and bypass it completely.
