Default 00 cherokee head gasket issues

Looking for some advice on an issue im having with my jeep. It is definitely a head gasket and the jeep has 153k on it. body is mint, undercarriage is mint, clean interior...etc It is worth fixing but im not sure how to go about it. ive heard that there is a problem with heads from 99 and up. Should i rebuild the strong runner i got or look for a low milage used motor?

thanks for any advice

Read the many forum posts first. There are dozens and dozens. Use search feature a lot. Do this for most anything here first. The site is huge.

Just replace the head gasket. Why waste a perfectly good looking XJ?

No, not that simple on 0331 heads. If he reads the forums other threads he'll understand and do what is best for him.

Totally worth fixing. Although if you're going to put that much labor into changing the gasket replace the head while you're at it. The 0331 head is a turd. I have a small oil leak also on my '02 TJ's head gasket also so I'll be changing the head and gasket at the same time and be done with it. You can find a new head here, http://cylinder-heads.com/products.c...id=87&catid=27. Or if you can find one in the JY make sure it has the letters TUPY cast into it. You can also use an older casting but its not set up for your coil rail, it's easy enough to fab up some brackets though.
